- The players start in Common Room of the Redbrand Hideout.
- Burnt and mutilated Redbrand bodies lie about the room.
- Both doors in the room are closed. There’s a barrel pushed up against the south door.
- Several small fires are smouldering around the room, mostly the wooden furniture and some decorative textiles.
- Coins, trinkets and burnt playing cards are scattered across the table top, some are on the floor beneath the table.
- The air is thick with smoke and the smell of burnt flesh.
- With no ventilation in the room the party’s eyes are starting to sting and it’s getting harder for them to breathe.
- Aster and Sagnus are badly wounded so the party plans a hasty retreat from the Hideout.
- As Mud approaches the north door he notices something small move underneath it.
- Mud gently opens the door and sees a corridor with steps leading east. He also sees a closed door to the north, on the opposite side of the corridor.
- Aster creeps out and puts her ear to the door on the opposite site of the corridor. She hear’s dripping and bubbling noises.
- As she goes to peak into the room she hears footsteps coming from east, up the corridor stairs. She slips back into the Common Room leaving the door open enough to peak through.
- The footsteps sounds like they are on a wooden then stone surface. Then it goes quiet.
- Aster creeps out into the corridor again and carefully ascends the steps. She sees the corridor turns south. She hears a small shuffle just around the corner. Pressing against the south wall, she peaks around the corner to see a Redbrand waiting with two swords draw.
- Aster creeps back to the room to relay watch she found.
- Mud pushes the barrel away from the south door of the Common Room.
- Wood peaks out of the south door and sees that Glasstaff is no longer in the corridor. He hugs the south wall as he creeps down the corridor and up the steps. He can see no one in the area around the Crevasse. He sneaks back to the room to tell the others.
- Aster creeps out of the north door again, this time headed for the door on the opposite side of the corridor. As she does so she sees the Redbrand is now at the top of the steps. He sees her and immediately runs towards her to attack, shouting “This door! This door! They’re here!”.
- Aster retreats back into the room closing the door behind her.
- All the party hears a strange grinding sound coming from somewhere in the Hideout.
- Aster hurriedly pushes a barrel against the north door.
- Sagnus calls for the party to immediately leave via the south door.
- Dnath pulls opens the south door and clunks up the corridor steps towards the Crevasse area. He hears sounds coming from around the corner to the north and also in the distance on the other side of the crevasse. He stops at the top of the steps.
- Mud runs down the corridor past Dnath and into the Crevasse room. He immediately spots a Redbrand waiting just around the corner to the north.
- Wood dashes past Mud and Dnath and into melee range with the Redbrand.
- Aster also runs down the corridor but hangs behind the others.
- Wood notices Glasstaff on the other side of the Crevasse, heading south from the north end of the room.
- Glasstaff sends a telepathic message to Mud. He then shouts “Friends… friends….” in a reproachful manner, as he unleashes three Magic Missiles at Wood.
- Sagnus, still in the Common Room, scoops up a handful of treasure as he flees the room. Looking down as he runs he discards cooper pieces and pockets a gold earring with a ruby in it.
- Dnath attacks the Redbrand but fails to get through his defenses.
- The Redbrand surges at Dnath, cutting deeply with a quick upward slash of his short sword. Dnath collapses.
- The Redbrand swings wildly with his other sword, trying for a killing blow on the defenceless Dnath. Luckily the sword catches and sticks in the stone pillar beside him.
- Dnath is unconscious on the ground.
- The Redbrand that was in the corridor to the north of the Common Room runs along the Cevasse to join the battle.
- Mud enters a Rage and cuts into the Redbrand then tries to jumps out of melee range so that Sagnus has room for his spell attacking. The Redbrand slashes Mud as he does so.
- Wood scrambles through the Crevasse headed for Glasstaff. As he nears him on the other side, he notices a faint magical aura surrounding the wizard.
- Wood attacks. His first blow is deffected by the magical aura. His second, more forceful, attack manages to penetrate the shield and wound the wizard.
- Sagnus stands over the unconscious Dnath and casts burning hands at the two Redbrands. The Redbrand closest to Sagnus is badly burned while the other Redbrand manages to shield behind his comrade. Sagnus then moves to take cover in the corridor.
- Aster also steps over Dnath to attack the burnt Redbrand with her blades. She lands two blows then retreats into the corridor with Sagnus.
- Glasstaff thrusts his hand out to grab Wood and casts Shocking Gasp. Wood is seriously injured by the electrical burns and has only 1 hit point remaining. Glasstaff taunts Wood with a victorious smile as he disappears down the south east corridor. Wood is too shocked by the spell to react.
- Dnath passes his first death saving throw.
- The burnt and badly injured Redbrand makes a defensive retreat and heads down the south tunnel.
- The remaining Redbrand engages Mud and manages to land a blow but it does little damage to the raging barbarian.
- Mud retaliates at the Redbrand, landing a blow..
- A badly injured Wood fires his bow across the Crevasse at the Redbrand fighting Mud. The arrow sticks into the Redbrand’s abdomen. His eyes go wide with the shock and pain of the unexpected ranged attack.
- Aster steps around Sagnus to fire her crossbow at the Redbrand. The bolt strikes him in the eye killing him instantly.
- Aster picks up Dnath in preparation for a retreat.
- Sagnus casts Ray of Frost down the tunnel towards the fleeing Redbrand but it hits the narrow tunnel wall.
- Dnath fails his second death saving throw as Aster carries him.
- The fleeing Redbrand hears the impact of Sagnus’s spell behind him and sprints down the tunnel.
- Mud bolt down the tunnel after him as his rage subsides.
- And it’s Wood’s turn.
