- The party are in the Redbrand hideout in a corridor to the south east of the Crevasse.
- Glasstaff’s dead body is lying on the ground face up, eyes open. His skin and dark beard smeared with oil. His singlet absorbing blood as it leaks from his wounds.
- Sagnus stands over him with the crystal staff in one hand the dead mage’s satchel in the other.
- Sildar is slumped against the wall near the body. Exhausted and badly bludgeoned by magic attacks. His glowing pink sword lies limply in his hand beside him. He watches Sagnus through one good eye, the other is swollen closed.
- Wood lies on the stone floor near the cistern, on other side of the secret door. He is unconscious but breathing steadily.
- Mud approaches Sildar to offer assistance. Sildar explains that he’ll need to send Glasstaff’s body to Neverwinter but suggests leaving it in the hideout while the party returns to the town to recover from the battle.
- Aster drags Glasstaff’s body into the Barracks room near the cistern and locks the door.
- Aster and Sagnus carry the unconscious Wood back to town.
- Mud assists Sildar into the tunnel. He slips on the ball bearings and lands onto his ass. Sildar laughs and explains the same thing happened to him earlier.
- As the party enters the Stonehill Inn, Sildar announces the new heroes of Phandalin and declares that the Redbrand threat has been eliminated.
- With Iarno Albrek dead, Sildar is a lot more relaxed and proceeds to get hammered.
- Sagnus notices Sister Garaele smiling warmly at him from a nearby table. He goes to talk to her.
- The unconscious Wood is taken to a room to rest.
- Aster shares the letter she found in Glasstaff’s quarters with the rest of the party.
Lord Albrek,
My spies in Neverwinter tell me that strangers are due to arrive in Phandalin. They could be working for the dwarves. Capture them if you can, kill them if you must, but don’t allow them to upset our plans. See that any dwarven maps in their possession are delivered to me with haste. I’m counting on you, Iarno. Don’t disappoint me.
Black Spider
- The party discusses the letter and conclude that the “dwarven maps” most likely refers the Gundren’s map that was taken to Cragmaw Castle along with the dwarf.
- Sildar asks Aster join him at the bar for a private chat. He tells her that he has concluded she stole his Redbrand bounty and that given the way things have turned out, she can keep it. He says he hopes she is of a mind to share it with the rest of the party.
- Mud orders four roast chickens.
- Dna enters the Inn fresh from the road. He tells the party of his recent experience.
- Dna’s mother is elderly and suffers from dementia. Recently she has been reliving a period of time when Dna was a boy and Dna’s father had fallen gravely ill. Dna’s father had in fact managed to recover from that particular incident and is now in good health. When Dna’s father discovered that delusional wife had recently sent for Dna, he immediately sent a second messenger to intercept Dna and inform him that his assistance was not required in Neverwinter at this time.
- Wood regains consciousness and shaves off what remains of his burnt afro.
- Toblin Barthen enters the Inn and chats with Wood and Mud. He thanks them for what they have done for Phandalin and tells them that he owes them a favour.
- He also mentions that Gundren’s brothers still haven’t returned from their mining expedition to resupply. They are long overdue and he fears something may have happened to them.
- Sagnus tries to seduce Sister Garaele. She is responsive to his charms but keeps bringing the conversation back to the topic of Agatha the Banshee. Sagnus leaves her table in frustration.
- Wood sits next to Mud and orders four roast quail.
- Mirna Dendrar enters the Inn and approaches Aster. She thanks the party for rescuing her family from the hideout. She has no money to repay the party so instead she tells Aster of the location of an emerald necklace.
- Mirna and her parents fled from the town of Thundertree after it was overrun by undead. Her family had an herb and alchemy shop in the southeast part of Thundertree. Inside the shop is a case containing an emerald necklace hidden beneath a section of storage shelves. She never dared to return and retrieve it. The necklace belonged to her mother.
- Sildar gets very drunk and revels in playing the hero and drinking with the locals.
- Meanwhile Mud is feeling uneasy about the premature celebrations and gathers the party to plan their next moves. He thinks that there is more to do and suggests that they head north.
- Sildar joins the conversation and tells the party that Reidoth the Druid is known for his knowledge of this area and will most likely know the location of Cragmaw Castle. The Druid is currently visiting the ruined town of Thundertree.
- The party retires for a long rest (and reaches Level 3). When they return to the common area for breakfast they see Toblin and Trilena busy cleaning up from last nights celebrations.
- Aster gives 50 gold to each player explaining she found the dollar bucks in Glasstaff’s quarters.
