Bush Monkeys have just swung down out of the forests of creative gestation – those trees are big man, and have equal parts stocked beer fridges and height for viewing the world as lyrical fodder – to deliver upon their promise of both a live show to be reckoned with, and a debut e.p. that treads exciting song lines in and outside of the roots/dub/hip hop landscape.
Bush Monkeys are the sum of an eclectic range of musical parts. 1/5th DJ Franky D, Bush Monkeys producer, sample wrangler and much, much more, a man who honed his love of the bass drop supporting the likes of Derrick Carter and playing festivals such as Big Day Out and Summadayze.
1/5th Ben Pearson, songwriter extraordinnaire (see ‘Say The Moon’ for full details), and towering bassline officianado for Melbourne garage rockers, Wet Young Dolphin, coupled here with his penchant for the growling verse and haunting chorus.
1/5th Sandor Bende, the unwaveringly soulful trumpeteer, keys player & percussionist, with a catalog of fine vocal harmonies and nostalgic lyrics to sweeten the deal.
Did someone order a powerful falsetto and guitar virtuosity? Then the 4th part of the pie (is everyone still with me on these fractions?) arrives as the perfect solution, Mr. Mark Behmer provides both such skills with just the right combination of ‘can do’ and smartarse.
The last piece of the Bush Monkeys picture arrived considerably late. Travis Marke aka Small Man Syndrome, lends his slightly obsessive passion for the perfect arrangement, boisterous rhymes and sample matching live beats to the Bush Monkeys team.
